Watch: BGTV Episode 1

Welcome to our first installment of BGTV where we chat all things Bike Glendhu. Grab a cuppa and settle in, we’ve got a lot to cover.

Ok let’s chat about the wildling pines. Bike Glendhu is an environmentally focused activities business, and as we all know, wilding conifers are a major pest in New Zealand. The Department of Conservation uses enormous resource to remove these species and prevent them from spreading across New Zealand. This is to ensure that this species doesn’t take over and impact natural revegetation of the New Zealand countryside.

As part of the 15+ years Parkins Bay Golf Course development, Darby Partners and Glendhu Station have requirements from the Environment Court regarding the tree removal, weed management and revegetation of the Glendhu area. Per the Court; “All conifers or firs with wilding potential” need to be removed from the Glendhu area by the consent holder prior to the completion of Stage 1 of the development. This means that the Oregon trees (by the Fern Burn River, through which we all love to ride) require removal as per the Environmental Courts decision. We are sad the see them go, but we consider ourselves guardians of this land and we know that replanting natives will enhance the area even more and will result in a better outcome for generations to come.
