Here’s Your List of NZ Must-Ride MTB Events in 2026

If there’s one thing Kiwi mountain bikers know how to do, it’s putting on a rad bike event. Here at Bike Glendhu, we’re quite proud of our various mountain bike events, including community events like Women’s Ride Wednesdays and our signature events like the Glenduro. But looking big picture, as a whole our little island at the bottom of the world has some epic event drawcards.

So here’s our list of must-ride MTB events for 2026, all the way from the North Island down to our home in the Southern Alps.

McGazza Fest

Location: Queenstown, NZ
Dates: January 16th-26th, 2026

The full version of the Queenstown Bike Festival is back for 2026! Expect group rides, massive jump jams, and plenty of good vibes in Queenstown’s stunning scenery. This event is perfect for anyone who loves community spirit mixed with heart-stopping bike action.

Tips for Riders: Bring your A-game for the jump jams and prepare for some epic group rides. Registration is first come first served and you must be a QMTBC member to ride in the famous McGazza Dream Jam.

Tips for Spectators: Grab a spot near the main jump line to witness some insane tricks. Don’t forget sunscreen and a picnic to enjoy the outdoor vibe!

Crankworx Summer Series

Location: Christchurch
Dates: February 13th-16th, 2025

This Summer Series brings Crankworx’s signature energy to Christchurch with epic downhill races, slopestyle action, and pump track battles. Ideal for thrill-seekers and fans of world-class biking.

Tips for Riders: Register early, spots fill up fast. Bring your best downhill and slopestyle setups.

Tips for Spectators: Make sure to catch the pump track battles for high-speed action in a compact setting.

Challenge Wanaka

Location: Wanaka
Date: February 17th, 2025

Challenge Wanaka combines swimming, running, and biking, this is a test of endurance like no other. Mountain bikers can show off their versatility in the rugged Wanaka landscape, with the bike leg taking athletes 90kms out past Bike Glendhu and back to town… 3 times!

Tips for Riders: Train across all disciplines for peak performance. Consider scouting the biking route in advance.

Tips for Spectators: The finish line is always an electrifying spot to watch athletes complete their epic journey.

Mountain Bike National Champs

Location: Rotorua
Date: February 22nd, 2025

The best of the best compete for in the MTB National Champs for the national title. Rotorua’s world-class trails set the stage for this high-stakes showdown.

Tips for Riders: Bring your competitive edge and race-legal gear. Pre-riding the course is a must.

Tips for Spectators: Arrive early to secure a prime viewing spot and cheer for the national stars.

Midpoint Jump Jam

Location: Base 334, NZ

Motatapu: Mondraker Mountain Bike Race

Location: Wanaka to Arrowtown
Date: March 1st, 2025

Spanning breathtaking landscapes, the Motatapu: Mondraker Mountain Bike race offers both e-bike and MTB categories. The route is challenging but worth every drop of sweat.

Tips for Riders: Train for endurance—this is a long haul. Don’t skimp on carb-loading!

Tips for Spectators: Post up at Arrowtown for a festive atmosphere as riders finish.

The Racers Edge Glenduro

Location: Glendhu Bay, Wanaka
Date: March 22nd, 2025

OPEN from 10am, all trails.
Lower Mountain is riding mint. Upper is also mostly pretty good.

There are still some wet & slippery spots across the whole park so take it easy especially on the black trails!

Trail work on Out of Shape today, trail is still open but please follow signage.
