Ahhh, the morning coffee. What better ritual is there in life? Well, it’s about to get even better with our Cruise & Coffee summer offer. We love the fast-paced culture of those who love to shred and go… But we’re also here to accommodate those who want to work hard + chill harder.
Wouldn’t it be great if you could combine your morning of outdoor rides, catch ups with friends, as well as coffee all in one location… Hi! Welcome to Bike Glendhu. Bring your bike, bring your book and bring all of your favorite people to this one-stop shop of everything you need for an epic morning.
Coffee is one of those things that we all LOVE, but simultaneously love to ignore its fair share of down-side-effects (we’re only human, right?). Waking up and hitting the caffeine can cause adrenal fatigue, high cortisol levels, hormonal disruption, as well as blood sugar crashes throughout the day. But hey, we’re not here to rain on your parade, instead, we’re bringing you all of the benefits of coffee when done correctly. And you guessed it, when combining caffeine with both exercise and rest, you are in to win. Get ready for the best coffee justification you’ve ever heard.
Ride First > Then Coffee
To avoid a caffeine spike that adds stress to the body, try riding first to allow your body to naturally reach that peak state on its own. While caffeine has been shown to boost energy for more zing during exercise, it can be counter-productive in the long run with negative long-term effects on the endocrine and adrenal systems (biking is no fun when you’re completely burnt out).
As always, it’s a matter of balance, and one way to achieve this is to have coffee after your exercise with a good book or some banter with friends. It’s the yin to the yang. Other benefits of having your coffee after a ride are things like faster muscle recovery and continued metabolism.
They say that when you combine your caffeine with a carbohydrate source (hello, cheese scone!) during recovery, the caffeine helps to improve glycogen repletion. This will help your muscles bounce back faster, and you’ll have less post-workout lag throughout the day.  Word on the street is that caffeine after exercise keeps your metabolism turning over too (that’s a lot of wins).
Optimize Those Endorphins
It’s all about the coffee & chill. Instead of rushing into your day with your long black in a Keep cup, try blocking out the time to sit down and enjoy yourself. Our on-site café is nestled amongst the mighty Harris mountains in the Motatapu Valley. Relaxing after your ride will help with all of those feel-good endorphins, that only release once the body signals it’s safe (resting).
The More, The Merrier
Friends make everything better. Studies show time and time again that when we have a meaningful connection to our family, friends and community, we’re more likely to live healthier, happier, and longer lives. Why not feed three birds with one scone and get your connection, coffee & cruising all done at once? It’s the perfect mate date on a sunny morning, especially when a coffee happy hour is involved (decaf included 😉).
