Why you can ride Bike Glendhu as a beginner biker

If you think mountain biking is only for adrenaline junkies and seasoned riders, think again. Bike Glendhu, nestled just 10 minutes from Wanaka, is proof that anyone can enjoy biking. With a welcoming vibe and thoughtfully designed trails, Bike Glendhu is perfect for beginners or those who wouldn’t typically call themselves mountain bikers. In short, if you can confidently ride a bike, you can ride Bike Glendhu.

Here are four reasons why it’s the ideal spot to ride as a beginner biker.

Trails designed for all skill levels

Bike Glendhu boasts over 40 kilometres of trails, many of which are tailored for beginners and casual riders. Flowy green trails like Kakariki, the Family Loop and Matt & Gary are smooth, scenic, and free of intimidating features, making them the perfect introduction to mountain biking. Our gradual climbs also ensure a fun and confidence-building experience, even for first-timers!

Easy gear rentals and ebike options

Don’t have all the biking gear? No problem! Bike Glendhu’s on-site rentals have you covered with top-of-the-line Trek full suspension mountain bikes and ebikes. Our Trek Rail ebikes, in particular, are a game-changer for beginners, giving you an extra boost to conquer climbs effortlessly. All rentals come with Sweet Protection helmets, so you’re ready to hit the trails safely and comfortably.

Supportive environment and friendly staff

The Bike Glendhu team is passionate about making biking accessible to everyone. Whether it’s helping you choose the right trail, adjusting your bike, or offering tips for the ride, our friendly and knowledgeable staff are there to support you every step of the way. You’ll feel welcomed and encouraged, no matter your skill level.

Epic views and a relaxing base area

You don’t need to be a hardcore rider to appreciate Bike Glendhu’s Insta-worthy views. The trails wind through beautiful native bush over a classic NZ working station, offering breathtaking views of Lake Wanaka, the Matukituki Valley, Motatapu Valley and the Southern Alps.

Plus, the relaxed vibe of the park means you can take your time, enjoy the ride, and stop for photos whenever you like. Finish your day at Base 334, our central base area with a drink and delicious local eats at Velo Cafe & Beer Garden—because every adventure is better with great food, good company and yarns.

Bike Glendhu is more than just a mountain bike park—it’s an invitation to experience the joy of riding, regardless of your experience level. Whether you’re looking to try something new, enjoy a fun day out with friends or family, or simply soak in the incredible Wanaka landscape, Bike Glendhu has it all. So grab a bike and start pedaling—you might just discover a new favorite hobby!
